WAHUPA Upward Bound

Wahupa Upward Bound Program

WAHUPA Upward Bound (UB) is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization that is 100% funded by the U.S. Department of Education as part of TRIO. Since 1995, Wahupa UB has been supporting 30-50 Kearny students annually across all grade levels. We assist students to become academically and socially prepared for post-secondary education at no cost for eligible students. We offer services to students who attend Castle Park, Kearny, Sweetwater, O’Farrell and Lincoln high schools.

We provide the following FREE services for UB students:

  • Advising/Counseling: Individual academic advising & counseling for grades 9-12. Assistance with goal setting and building their academic portfolio to ensure students are on track to graduate and apply for college. Assist with college research & career explorations.
    • Senior Support: Extra support for 11th & 12th graders to work on college applications, personal statements, FAFSA, scholarships, etc.
  • Academic Tutoring & Study Hall: A UB tutor will be on campus to help students who need extra support with their classes and homework. Students are more than welcome to stay if they need a place to focus and study. Free snacks are provided if available.
    • We offer tutoring at least twice a week after school. For the latest schedule, check the schedule posted in the library or see the updates posted on @ubkearny or @wahupaub Instagram.
